floating peninsula

2019, business project

During my experience in Modulnova I had the opportunity to participate in the development of this peninsula, presented at the Milan Fuorisalone, in the company's flagship store.

The main goal was to create an external appendix to an island kitchen, to be used as a dining table, eliminating the leg in sheet metal that was previously used to support the structure, without affecting the overall dimensions of the base.

In this project I had the opportunity to work with an important company in the sector, to relate with suppliers and production, all with very stringent deadlines to be respected in order to test the system before the exhibition, I also rediscovered the value mechanical design, already part of my background from high school.

In order to support the structure I hypothesized to create an internal frame which, on the basis of the principle of the balance of forces in the beams, was able to keep the kitchen stable, anchored even if someone had sat on the table.

By making the structural calculations, we therefore opted for two IPE 80 beams and counterweights made with the waste of the marble worker, recessed inside a frame hidden in the base of the kitchen.

We then made the prototype to verify that everything worked as expected. The test confirmed the robustness of the system and allowed to proceed with the realization of the sample to be taken to Milan, the product was then included in the catalog and several variants are still in production.
