one string

2021, group project

For this project we flew to São João da Madeira in Portugal, at CTCP, where we were asked to design a sustainable and comfortable shoe, adaptable to both walking and running.

In order to achieve the result we opted for Wraptech, a technical solution patented by Vibram, with a personal twist.

With this concept, the sole becomes a prominent part of the footwear, in terms of performance, functionality and as a design feature which defines a unique personality.

The scrap material all around the sole is wrapped on the upper; it makes the shoe more sustainable and guarantees a side protection from the infiltration.

wear, walk, adjust, run

by an elastic string is possible to adjust how much the shoe actually wraps around the sole and the foot,
pulling the clip on the heel gives you a much tighter, better performing shoe.

the sole

we adapted an existing sole in order to have a result similiar to our design, then we have created a groove to allow the string to pass through the outsole, and the Wraptech finish was made by a layer of EVA.

upper and insole

after crating the “shirt” of the last we cutted out the pieces from the material, we stitched them together to create the upper and we lasted it to the lasting board we customized using a laser engraver.

mechanism

the mechanism is totally faithful to the original, made by rigid 3d printed components and an elastic string, this parts works together as we imagined, giving a good compression to the upper and, considering the different material, changing the sole shape.

Fuorisalone 2022

one string was selected by Politecnico di Milano for the 2022 exhibition “Design X Designers“
